First Contact Physiotherapy

First contact practitioners are trained to assess patients that have not yet seen a doctor or nurse.  This means they have additional training and experience so you receive the correct diagnosis and advice on your first visit.

Our first contact physiotherapists (FCP) are expert physiotherapists trained to assess and diagnose musculoskeletal problems without the need for you to see your doctor.  The FCP service prevents you having to wait to see your GP or a nurse, as you can see a highly trained physiotherapist without a referral.

The FCP service aims to make an accurate diagnosis at your first appointment.  Where necessary blood tests or radiological examinations can be requested.

The role of the FCP team is not to deliver physiotherapy treatment, but to advise you about rehabilitation programs or make a referral  for formal physiotherapy if required. If the condition requires surgical intervention, a joint replacement for example, the FCP can refer you directly.

Our FCP team are trained to spot serious diagnoses that sometimes present as musculoskeletal problems.  They will agree a treatment plan with you that is tailored to your needs.  Some of our team are able to deliver specialised treatments such as joint injections.
