Pharmacy Technician
The pharmacy technician team support the clinical pharmacists as well as directly supporting patients.
The pharmacy technician team complement the clinical pharmacists. They support the effective use of medications. They work under the supervision of the clinical pharmacists, they do not prescribe medications or make clinical decisions regarding treatment.
The team supports the patients and practices by offering a number of services, such as
- Ensuring shared care medicines are prescribed safely, in accordance with published guidelines.
- Monitoring medications that require regular blood tests.
- Dealing with medication queries from patients, for example out of stock medications.
- Managing repeat medications
- Actioning changes to repeat medications following hospital stays or outpatient attendance.
- Advising on medication use, for example inhaler technique.
